Film Factory at the Oscars

De la 89e édition des Oscars, seule nous est dévoilée la liste des 84 pays candidats à l'Oscar du meilleur film étranger. Le 17 novembre, neuf ou dix films seront présentés aux membres votants pour qu'ils ne sélectionnent que cinq nominations finales. Ce n'est que le 24 janvier 2017 que l'ensemble des nominations aux Oscar 2017, toutes catégories confondues, sera rendu officiel.

En attendant la sélection définitive, Film Factory a le plaisir d'annoncer que 5 de ses post-productions figurent parmi les films candidats :

Following the death of his father, Lary, in his forties, spends a Saturday in Bucharest with his family to commemorate the deceased. On the occasion of the reunion, tensions are rekindled, hidden truths burst. This is a human fresco that delivers Cristi Puiu through this family drama.

  • Desierto by Jonás Cuarón (Mexico)

Hounded by an American citizen in the Sonoran Desert in Southern California, a small group of Mexicans are trying to cross the border. Armed, the man wants to leave no chance to that handful of illegal immigrants. The movie deals about a very actual theme. 

  • Alias Maria by Jose Luis Rugeles (Colombia)

Alias Maria offers an interesting vision of the Colombian armed conflict. Every year, an armed militia enlisted hundreds of children. Maria, 13, is one of them. Secretly pregnant, she is given a mission of utmost importance: to bring to the next town the newborn of the camp commander.

  • Neruda by Pablo Larrain (Chili)

This is a national emblem that the Chilean director decides to pay tribute to : the writer, poet and politician Pablo Neruda. When in 1948 the Cold War spreads in Chile, Neruda violently criticized his government. President Videla Peluchonneau requests his arrest. Follows a real manhunt; The young inspector in charge of his arrest is hoping to build a reputation by capturing the famous fugitive.

  • À peine j’ouvre les yeux by Leyla Bouzid (Tunisia)

A few months before the Arab Spring, Farah, a 18 year old rebellious soul sings in a rock band. She lives for her passion. The young woman discovers love and and drunkenness of the nights in her city. Her mother, however, does not accept the emancipation of her daughter, she knows only too well Tunisia and the prohibitions to encourage her in that direction.
